Spring 2010 Games Recap
March 20, 2010 -- MARFU Quarterfinals vs. St. Joseph's University
Ft. Washington, MD -- Georgetown defeated St. Joseph's University, 27-12, to advance to the Mid-Atlantic regional semi-final round to be held next weekend in Delaware. The Hoyas were challenged most of the first half as St. Joseph's controlled possession repeatedly moving the ball downfield. Georgetown contained the opposition attack to hold them scoreless and found openings to finish the first half ahead by three tries. Georgetown added two more tries in the second half as St. Joseph's entered the scoreboard for two scores. The Hoyas will play Temple University in the next round.
Tries were scored by wings Matt Tully '10 and Joey Angiuli '12, centers Brendan Smith '10 and Bryce Fitzpatrick '12 and 8man Ben Vinograd '10.

GEORGETOWN B RECAP:
In the B Game, Georgetown B experienced similar to the first game as St. Joseph's controlled early scoring a try and responded for five unanswered scores for a final of 25-7. Tries were scored by center Jesse Ruf '11, wing Alex Jackson '11, wing Sam Fubara '11. Center Matteo Gomez '11 scored two tries.

March 4, 2010 -- vs. American University
Georgetown University -- Georgetown defeated American University, 71-14, in their final friendly match before leaving for spring break. The Hoyas posted 11 tries and eight conversions with consistent attack and atheltic efforts, as American entered the try zone twice in the second half. The Hoyas are ranked #1 going into the Mid-Atlantic regional quarterfinal round, and will host on March 20 against St. Joseph's University, the Easten Pennsylvania #3 team.

February 27, 2010 -- vs. University of Delaware
Newark, DE -- Georgetown opened the spring season in a friendly match against University of Delaware in a heartbreaker loss, 16-19. The Hoyas' last two games were canceled due to the snow covered fields, and traveled to Delaware's turf field for its first full match in preparation for the Mid-Atlantic regionals in a month. Georgetown challenged the top ranked team in division 1 MARFU with several scoring opportunities throughout the match, including in the closing minutes. However, the Hoyas' penalties were costly as Delaware took advantage to capitalize all penalties into three tries for 19 points. Georgetown will play two weekday games on Georgetown's Multi-Sport Field next Wednesday and Thursday before spring break.
Eightman Ben Vinograd '10 led the team scoring with a try and three conversions for 14 points. Scrumhalf Brian Litwak '10 added a conversion.

GEORGETOWN B RECAP:
Georgetown B lost to Delaware B for two tries to seven. Tries were scored by prop Brian Seaman '12 and scrumhalf Paul Doherty '13.
November 15, 2009 -- PRU Finals vs. Salisbury University
Baltimore, MD -- Georgetown defeated Salisbury University, 21-10, to win the Potomac Rugby Union DII Championship and complete an undefeated fall season. The sun shined all day but the muddy field remained a factor as the Hoyas faced a challenge against the defending champs having defeated Salisbury last in 2005. Georgetown had chances scoring early in the first half but Salisbury kept the Hoyas out of the end zone for most of the game and led at the half by a penalty kick. Salisbury looked to spoil the finals match again for the Hoyas after their converted try in the second half. With team captain in the sin bin for a dangerous tackle, the Hoyas remained composed and at the skipper's return with 20 minutes left, the energized Hoyas pulled a comeback win for three converted scores for 21 unanswered points. Georgetown qualified for the #1 seed for the Mid-Atlantic regionals in March.
Flyhalf Phil Cooney '10 led the scoring with three conversions for six points. Tries were scored by eightman Ben Vinograd '10 and wing Matteo Gomez '11 scored his first A Side try.

November 14, 2009 -- PRU Semifinals vs. UMBC
Baltimore, MD -- Georgetown defeated University of Maryland Baltimore County, 12-3, to advance to the Potomac Rugby Union DII Championship match. The muddy ground was a factor that both teams played for field position. The Hoyas threatened several times in the first half but did not capitalize on the scoring opportunities until late in the first half with center Brendan Smith '10 score. In the second half, UMBC entered the scoreboard with a penalty kick, but eightman Ben Vinograd's try and conversion secured the win. The Hoyas clinched a seed in the Mid-Atlantic regionals in March. Georgetown will play Salisbury University for their seventh PRU Championship match in eight years on Sunday in Baltimore at 2PM. Salisbury advanced to the finals with an overtime victory against Loyola College.

November 7, 2009 -- PRU Quarterfinals vs. Mt. St. Mary's College
Washington, DC -- Georgetown defeated Mt. St. Mary's College 69-5 in the Potomac Rugby Union quarterfinal round to advance to the league Final 4 for the eight straight year. The Hoyas entered the end zone three times before Mt. St. Mary's scored their only try of the game, then Georgetown responded with eight unanswered tries. The Hoyas will play UMBC in the semifinal round next Saturday in Baltimore.
Eightman Ben Vinograd '10 led all scores with two tries and seven conversions for 24 points. Scrumhalf Brian Litwak '10 and flanker Karl Godlewski '11 each scored two tries. Other scores by prop Joe Moore '10, center Brendan Smith '10, flyhalf Phil Cooney '10, wing Ben Moore '12. Wing Matt Benton '11 scored his first A Side try.
