Spring 2006 Games Recap April 22, 2006 Capitol Cup Championships vs. Catholic University Washington, DC -- Georgetown continued its domination in the District with a victory against Catholic University, 36-7, to win its ninth consecutive Capitol Cup Championship. Catholic threatened the Hoyas in the opening minutes after intercepting a pass from 60 meters out to go the distance for the score. Georgetown responded for 36 unanswered points and five tries. Catholic pressured inside Georgetown's territory but the Hoyas countered with saving tackles and goal line defenses, earning a four year sweep for the seniors. Thank you for the fun times and leadership from our graduating players - Aria, DB Mike, Paul, Jacob, LJ, John Lamp, McCourt, Miller, Kerr, Maestro, Jim, Toboni, and Zoch. And, Beeno in his fifth season, marking the most Capitol Cup wins by a Hoya Rugger. Wing John Castrigano '07 scored a try, converted four kicks and a penalty kick for a game leading 16 points. Prop Kerr Mone '06, eightman Jim Suehr '06, flanker Richard Vilmenay '08, and wing Paul Detjen '06 each scored a try. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Georgetown, 17-7. April 22, 2006 Capitol Cup Semi Finals vs. George Washington University Washington, DC -- In the first game of the day, Georgetown defeated George Washington University with the final score of 45-5. The Hoyas poured in the scoring in the first half for 31 points and were limited to 14 points in the second half. Wing Steve McMullin '07 converted five kicks and a penalty kick for a team leading 13 points, and inside center Jeff Miller '06 scored two tries for 10 points. Flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08, outside center Sean McNamara '09, fullback Ben Purcell, and eightman Mike Zoch '06 each scored a try. Wing John Castrigano '07 converted a kick. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Georgetown, 31-0. April 9, 2006 Cherry Blossom Tournament vs. Boston College Suitland, MD -- The defending Cherry Blossom Tournament champions lost to Boston College with the final score of 0-12 in their second game of the tournament on Sunday afternoon. BC's tries came in the end of the first half and midway into the second half. In Saturday's game, NC State came back from a 12 point deficit as time expired in the second half to end the game in a tie, with the final score of 12-12. After Georgetown's only game on Saturday, the tournament games on the National Mall were cancelled for the rest of the day due to the weather and moved to Suitland, MD on Sunday. The Hoyas arrived for the Sunday kickoff at 8:00am, only to find out that the tournament brackets were restructured again, giving the Hoyas a bye and rescheduling their first game in the afternoon. When Georgetown returned in the afternoon, the Hoyas were matched against Boston College in the first bracket since other teams dropped out of the tournament on Sunday. Due to the lack of time and fields at the new location, the Hoyas were limited to only two games all weekend. Georgetown will finish the spring season at the Capital Cup Tournament for the best team in the District on Saturday, April 22. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Boston College, 0-7 April 8, 2006 Cherry Blossom Tournament vs. NC State Washington, DC -- Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Georgetown, 12-0. April 2, 2006 MARFU Consolation vs. Albright College Richmond, VA -- Georgetown comes up short in the MARFU consolation match against Albright College from Pennsylvania with the final score of 19-21. The Hoyas opened the scoring by inside center Alex Parkhouse '08 and a conversion added by wing Steve McMullin '07. Albright mauled down the field to even up the score. Fullback Ben Purcell scored a try in the corner and Albright added another score to lead by two points at the half. Both teams scored a try in the second half. Georgetown will play in the Cherry Blossom Tournament next weekend, held on the National Mall. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Albright, 12-14 April 1, 2006 MARFU Semifinals vs. University of Mary Washington Richmond, VA -- Georgetown lost to University of Mary Washington in the MARFU semifinal match with the final score of 16-23. The Hoyas were ahead at half time, 13-8, but missed opportunities and mistakes allowed Mary Washington to come from behind to score 15 points in the second half. Georgetown's only try was by prop John Lampariello '06 early in the first half. Wing Steve McMullin '07 converted a try and three penalty kicks for 11 points. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Georgetown, 13-8 March 25, 2006 MARFU Quarterfinals vs. St. Joseph's Accokeek, MD -- Georgetown defeated St. Joseph's University in the Mid-Atlantic Division II Quarterfinal round with the final score of 47-12 to advance to the MARFU Final 4 for its fourth straight year. St.Joseph's was the second ranked team from Eastern Pennsylvania, making their first MARFU appearance since the spring of 2001. The Hoyas took advantage of their playoff experience to score two tries early in the first half. As St. Joe's scored to keep the game tight, Georgetown scored 26 unanswered points to secure the victory. St.Joe's scored another try late in the second half, and the Hoyas closed out the game with another try. Georgetown will travel to Richmond, VA next weekend for the MARFU Final 4. Outside center Steve McMullin '07 led the team scoring with four conversions and three penalty kicks for 17 points. Fullback Ben Purcell scored two tries for 10 points, and lock John Fisher-Thompson '09 and wing Paul Detjen '06 each scored a try. Inside center Sean McNamara '09 and scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '09 each scored their first A side tries. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Georgetown, 27-5 ------- Georgetown B fell to St. Joseph's B with the final score of 13-28. Fullback James Grant '09 and scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '09 each scored a try. Flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08 converted a penalty kick. Scoring Summary (B Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Georgetown, 8-0 Hyatsville, MD -- Georgetown falls short against the reigning Division 1 Eastern Pennsylvania Champions, Kutztown University, with the final score of 28-21. Kutztown opened the game with a converted try, but Georgetown answered back to lead at half time with first A side scores by wing James Grant '09 and flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08. Fullback Steve McMullin '07 converted two tries for four points. In the second half, Kutztown scored three converted tries for 21 points to pull away. The Hoyas finished off the scoring by prop Kerr Mone '06 and a conversion by outside center John Castrigano '07. Georgetown will host the Mid-Atlantic regional quarterfinals next weekend against St. Joseph University of Pennsylvania. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Georgetown, 14-7 ------- Georgetown B lost to Kutztown B with the final score of 10-19. Outside center Henry Delouvrier '09 scored the only try for the Hoyas, and scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '09 added a conversion and a penalty kick for five points. Scoring Summary (B Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Kutztown, 0-7 March 6, 2006 vs. Washington Irish Gravelly Point, VA -- Georgetown returned from spring break to scrimmage the Washington Irish Men's Club for four quarters, giving playing opportunities for the Hoyas. After the first two quarters, the game was tied at 10-10, and the Irish ran away with 21 more points in the following quarters to come out with the victory for the final score of 10-31. Wing Paul Detjen '06 scored a try, and outside center Steve McMullin '07 added a penalty kick and a conversion for five points. Georgetown will host the Division 1 Eastern Pennsylvania Champions Kutztown University next weekend. Scoring Summary: 2nd Quarter: 3rd Quarter: 4th Quarter: February 25, 2006 vs. Maryland Washington, DC -- Georgetown was dominated by PRU Divison 1 team University of Maryland College Park with the final score of 14-50. Maryland returned the favor after losing to the Hoyas last season and handed the Hoyas its worst defeat in years. Georgetown's points were scored by prop Kerr Mone '06 in the first half and by fullback Ben Purcell in the second half. Outside center Steve McMullin '07 converted both tries for four points. The Hoyas are on a bye week and will scrimmage the Washington Irish men's club after spring break. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Maryland, 7-31 ------- Georgetown B fell to Maryland B after three quarters of play for the final score of 20-33, giving Georgetown B its first defeat since last year. Flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08 converted a penalty kick and a conversion for five points. Outside center John Castrigano '07 scored two tries for 10 points, and prop Chris Burke '08 scored a try. Scoring Summary (B Side): 2nd Quarter: 3rd Quarter: Washington, DC -- Georgetown opened the spring season with a victory against PRU Division 1 opponent Loyola College, 25-20. In a deficit at half-time, Georgetown scored three straight tries for 17 points in the second half to take the lead. Loyola answered with a score, but the Hoyas held Loyola's late surge to secure the win. The Hoyas played on the newly constructed Multi-Sport Field to mark Georgetown Rugby's first match on campus. Georgetown will host next Saturday against another PRU Division 1 opponent University of Maryland - College Park. Outside center Steve McMullin '07 led the team scoring with a try, conversion, and a penalty kick for 10 points. Eightman Michael Zoch '06, wing Paul Detjen '06, and fullback Ben Purcell each scored a try. Scoring Summary (A Side): 2nd Half: Half Time: Loyola, 8-13. ------- Georgetown B defeated Loyola B with the final score of 24-10. Flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08, inside center Andy Gottlieb '08, lock Matt Freeman '07, and lock Pat DePoy '09 each scored a try. Wing John Castrigano '07 added two conversion for four points.
