Hoyas Win PRU Championship
November 15, 2009 -- Georgetown defeated Salisbury University, 21-10, to win the Potomac Rugby Union DII Championship and complete an undefeated fall season at 10-0. The sun shined all day but the muddy field remained a factor as the Hoyas faced a challenge against the defending champs having defeated Salisbury last in 2005. Georgetown had chances scoring early in the first half but Salisbury kept the Hoyas out of the end zone for most of the game and led at the half by a penalty kick. Salisbury looked to spoil the finals match again for the Hoyas after their converted try in the second half. With team captain in the sin bin for a dangerous tackle, the Hoyas remained composed and at the skipper's return with 20 minutes left, the energized Hoyas pulled a comeback win for three converted scores for 21 unanswered points. Georgetown qualified for the #1 seed for the Mid-Atlantic regionals and will host St. Joseph's University (EPRU #3) in the quarterfinals on March 20.
