Hoyas Lose Finals for #2 MARFU Seed
November 11, 2007 -- Georgetown fell to Salisbury University in the Potomac Rugby Union Championship, 10-46, to take the PRU #2 seed for the Mid-Atlantic regional playoffs. Salisbury scored in the first 10 minutes and the Hoyas responded with a try. Salisbury downed two more scores in the half as Georgetown scored to close the first half. The Hoyas had limited scoring opportunities but played defense most of the second half as Salisbury broke down the Georgetown defense in the closing minutes for two quick tries to end the game. Georgetown will host Albright College (EPRU #2) in the MARFU Quarterfinals on March 22. Thank you for all the support from our family, alumni, and friends. See you in the spring!

Hoyas Beat Catholic to Play in Finals
November 3, 2007 -- Georgetown advanced to the Potomac Rugby Union Championship with a victory against Catholic University, 15-5. Another classic match, with both teams going back and forth throughout the entire game on Georgetown's Multi-Sport Field on campus, the Hoyas were ahead by a penalty kick at half time. Georgetown gained several momentum in the second half to pressure Catholic, rewarded for two scores. Catholic's score came in the closing minutes during injury time. Georgetown will play in the PRU Finals against Salisbury University next Sunday on the Cracker's Rugby Pitch in Waynesboro, PA hosted by Chambersburg RFC. This venue is located just 19 miles NW of Emmitsburg, MD (Mount St. Mary's University) 83 miles NW and 1:40 hours from Washington, DC.

B SIDE RECAP: Georgetown B lost to Catholic B 5-10. Wing Jack Murray '11 scored the only try for Georgetown.

Hoyas Advance to PRU Semi Finals
October 28, 2007 -- Georgetown defeated the Naval Academy C with the final score of 49-14 to advance to the Potomac Rugby Union semi final round for its sixth season in a row. The quarterfinal game was postponed from Saturday due to field conditions in the District and relocated to Sunday in the Annapolis campus. Georgetown returned from their bye week for seven tries against the 7th seeded team in the PRU playoffs. The Hoyas will host the #3 seed, Catholic University in the semi final round next Saturday on Georgetown's Multi Sport Facility on campus.

Scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '09 led the team scoring with a try, two penalty kicks, and four conversions for 19 points. Tries were scored by fullback Phil Cooney '10, eightman Ben Stone '08, wing Brendan Smith '10, outside center Mike Masterson '08, wing John Llaneza '10, and inside center Joe Kemper '09.

Hoyas Beat Frostburg in PRU Sweep
October 13, 2007 -- Georgetown completed the Potomac Rugby Union regular season undefeated by beating Frostburg State University with the final score of 33-7. Frostburg pressured the Hoyas throughout but Georgetown was able to frustrate Frostburg's defense for a total of five tries. Georgetown scored two tries in the first half and three in the second half. Frostburg's only score was a penalty try called against Georgetown for arguing the official's call. The Hoyas are currently on top of the PRU standings with one more week of games for the other teams. Georgetown will host the Naval Academy C in the PRU Quarterfinals on October 27.

B SIDE RECAP:
In the B Side game, Georgetown B tied Frostburg 7-7. Outside center Rob Moore '11 scored the only try for the Hoyas. Fullback Dave Coghlan '11 added the conversion.

Hoyas Declare 76 on American Day
October 6, 2007 -- Georgetown defeated American University with the final score of 76-0 to remain undefeated in the PRU D2 DC Conference. The game was played on the campus football field for the first time this season. The day began with a moment of silence for the former American player killed last week. The Hoyas put in a quick try, but American's pressure contained the Hoyas temporarily as Georgetown broke through repeatedly for a total of 12 tries for the day. Georgetown will play its final regular season game next Saturday in Frostburg State.

Scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '09 led the team scoring with eight conversions for 16 points. Outside center Sean McNamara '09 and wing John Llaneza '10 each scored two tries for 10 points each. Tries were scored by lock John Fisher-Thompson '09, flanker Jeff Conahan '08, flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08, inside center Mike Masterson '08, hooker Matt Hammel '10, fullback Tim Maher '08, and outside center Brendan Smith '10. Wing Matt Tully '10 scored his first A Side try.

In the B Side game, Georgetown B defeated American B with the final score of 24-0. Scores were by flanker Karl Godlewski '11, outside center Keenan Conrad '11, wing Jack Murray '11, and inside center Geoff Marano '10. Scrumhalf Brian Litwak '10 converted two kicks for four points.

Hoyas Win Homecoming Game, 15-7
September 29, 2007 -- Georgetown defeated Catholic University, 15-7, on homecoming day, to remain as the only undefeated team in the PRU DII DC Conference. The game was delayed for an hour because of traffic caused by the blockade for blocks around the downtown field. Once all the players and referee arrived, the Hoyas looked to avenge last year's season loss to the Cardinals. Georgetown was under pressure early in the game, giving Catholic a first half try. Catholic continued to threaten, but Georgetown gave another solid performance on defense and used the field conditions to their advantage. The Hoyas' score right before the half sparked the comeback and held Catholic scoreless. Next Saturday, Georgetown will play American University on Georgetown's Multi-Purpose field on campus.

Wing Brendan Smith '10 scored his first A side try, and flanker Richard Vilmenay '08 scored a try. Scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '10 converted a try and a penalty kick for a total of five points.

In the B Side game, Georgetown B was held scoreless against Catholic B, 0-12.

Hoyas Win Against Colonials, 34-5
September 22, 2007 -- Georgetown defeated George Washington University with the final score of 34-5 for its second league win. Georgetown came out fast scoring quick tries early in the game. The second half went back and forth with both teams unable to score. Georgetown denied George Washington's scoring opportunities in the Hoyas' territory, and Georgetown broke through in the closing minutes for the only score in the second half. Georgetown will host Catholic University next Saturday.

Outside center Sean McNamara '09 and inside center Joe Kemper '09 led the team scoring with 10 points each. Tries were scored by prop Alex Gorodetsky '09and prop Tim Brown '09. Flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08 converted two tries for four points.

In the B Side game, Georgetown B defeated George Washington B with the final score of 27-0. Tries were scored by wing Matteo Gomez '11, prop Mike Onyiego '09, outside center Andrew Kalaris '09, flanker Dalton Dwyer '11, and flanker Karl Godlewski '11. Scrumhalf Brian Litwak '10 converted a try.

Hoyas Begin League Play with 14 Tries
September 15, 2007 -- Georgetown defeated George Mason University with the final score of 82-0 to open up the Potomac Rugby Union league games. In the first half, the Hoyas exploded for nine tries for 51 points and maintained the pressure to hold the opposition scoreless. Georgetown scored five tries in the second half for 31 points to win their first league game. Georgetown will play PRU D2 opponent George Washington University next Saturday.

Fullback Phil Cooney '10 led the team scoring with a hat trick of tries and four conversions for 23 points. Flyhalf Alex Parkhouse '08 worked the backline to finish with two tries and two conversions for 14 points. Tries were scored by lock John Fisher-Thompson '09, outside center Sean McNamara '09, wing Tim Maher '08, inside center Joe Kemper '09, scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '09, and wing John Llaneza '10. First A side tries were scored by wing Mike Kolleng '09, flanker Sean Herrle '11, and hooker Matt Hammel '10.

B SIDE RECAP:
In the B Side game, Georgetown B continued their domination to beat George Mason B with the final score of 76-0. Wing Matteo Gomez '11 led the team scoring with a hat trick of tries for 15 points. Wing Keenan Conrad '11 and inside center Rob Moore '11 each scored two tries for 10 points each. Scrumhalf Brian Litwak '10 converted eight tries for 16 points. Tries were scored by eightman Chase Burrell '11, hooker Josh Feller '11, lock Brian Gallagher '11, prop Jesse Mueller '10, and flanker Ted Worm '11.

Hoyas Open Season in Blue & Gray
September 8, 2007 -- Georgetown kicked off the fall season in the Third Annual Blue & Gray Classic held in Signal Hill Park in Manassas, VA, a Civil War landmark. Teams from the North compete against the Southern teams in college rugby's version of the Civil War. Georgetown played a total of five games for over 60 players. The Hoyas began the day by beating Virginia Rugby Union Division 2 rival, University of Mary Washington, 23-7.

In the second game, Georgetown B played VRU Division 1 team, James Madison University to a scoreless first half. In the second half, James Madison scored two converted tries as Georgetown put a score in the closing minutes to lose 5-14.

In the final matchup against the VRU State Champions, University of Virginia, the Hoyas scored two converted tries in the first half, but Georgetown was held scoreless in the second half as UVA scored three converted tries to lose 14-21. Georgetown C, comprised of mostly new players with about a week of experience, defeated University of Maryland B, 3-0, and lost to UVA B 7-12. Georgetown will open their league games next week in Fairfax, VA against George Mason University.

Prop Alex Gorodetsky '09 led the team scoring with two tries for 10 points. Scrumhalf Dan Castrigano '09 converted two tries and a penalty kick for nine points. Flanker Jeff Conahan '08 and outside center Sean McNamara '09 each scored a try. Wing Tim Maher '08 and wing John Llaneza '10 each scored their first A side tries. In the C side games, scrumhalf Brian Litwak '10 converted a penalty kick and wing Matteo Gomez '11 scored a try. >> Game Summary |
