WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!
November
6, 2004 -- Georgetown dominated against the defending national
champions Salisbury State with the final score of 34-0 to capture
their second Potomac Rugby Union Championship in three years. The
Hoyas looked to avenge their last second defeat in last year's finals
and saved the best in the final game to complete their undefeated
fall season (9-0 record). The Hoyas got off to a strong start and
had the opposition pinned down inside their territory. Georgetown
returned the favor by outscoring Salisbury with six tries to none.
Thank you to our family and friends who came out and supported us.
Georgetown is ranked number one going
into the Mid-Atlantic regionals in March. Georgetown will host Mary
Washington in the MARFU Quarterfinals on March 26.

FALL SEASON STATS:
Georgetown finished 9-0 in the fall season outscoring teams
408-53, including four shutouts. Flyhalf Jake Ludwigson '05 led
the fall season team scoring with 90 points. Sixteen different players
scored tries in the fall season. Team captain/fullback Ben Purcell
'05 led the team with 15 tries for 75 points. Wing Paul Detjen '06
scored 13 tries for 65 points.

Hoyas In the PRU
Finals, Again
October
30, 2004 -- Georgetown will play in the PRU Championship
finals game for its third straight season with a victory against
St. Mary's College, 36-11. The Hoyas came out fast with two quick
tries in the first 10 minutes of the game. Georgetown held St. Mary's
down most of the half and gave up their only try of the game midway
into the first half. St. Mary's attempted to threaten the Hoyas
in their own territory but Georgetown took advantage of the opposition's
mistakes. Georgetown will play Salisbury State for the championship
on Saturday.

with 10 points each. Flyhalf Jake Ludwigson '05 converted three
kicks for six points. Wing Paul Detjen '06 and fullback Ben Purcell
'05 each scored a try for five points each.
FINALS FLASHBACK: In last season's
finals, Salisbury scored a try as time expired to disappoint the
Hoyas 16-18. In the 2002 season finals, Georgetown took home the
championship with a victory against Salisbury 22-10. Salisbury is
the defending Division II National Champions.
GAME B RECAP:
The Georgetown B team defeated St. Mary's B with the final score
of 12-0. Fullback Steve McMullin '07 scored two tries and flyhalf
Adam Glazer '07 converted the kick.
Hoyas Advance to
Semifinals
October
24, 2004 -- Georgetown advanced to the league semifinals
with a victory against George Washington, 81-0. The inspired Hoyas
kept George Washington trapped inside their territory most of the
match and executed their scoring opportunities. The Hoyas displayed
an impressive distribution of the ball as five different backs and
four different forwards found the try zone 13 times. Georgetown
will host St. Mary's College in the semifinal match on Saturday.
Thank you to George Washington for presenting to the Hoyas a ball
signed by their team to honor Dan Rigby.

try and kicked in eight conversions to lead the game scoring for
21 points. Wing Paul Detjen '06, outside center Mark Bittmann '05,
flanker Greg Suellentrop '05 each scored two tries, and wing Conor

Victory Earns Top Seed
October
17, 2004 -- Georgetown
defeated American with the final score of 17-8 to advanced to the
PRU Playoffs with the number one seed in the west conference for
its third straight season. The Hoyas will host the fourth ranked
team from the east conference next week.
Outside center Mark Bittmann '05 led
the team scoring with two tries for 10 points. Fullback Paul Detjen
'06 scored a try and flyhalf Keith Summa '07 kicked in a conversion.

Georgetown B fell to American B with the final score of 15-10. Inside
center Brion McGlinn '06 and flyhalf Rich Staley '05 each scored
a try.
Hoyas Too Hot for
Frostburg
October
9 , 2004 -- Georgetown turned on the scoring gears for a
fast and furious 14 try-producing game against Frostburg State to
finish off with the final score of 90-0. The Georgetown team displayed
excellent distribution of the ball as backs and forwards scored
tries in the homecoming match. The Hoyas extended their winning
streak to five as they approach the final regular season game against
American University. Thank you to the alumni who came and supported
the Hoyas.

Purcell '05 each scored a hat trick of tries for a team leading
15 points each. Flyhalf Jake Ludwigson '05 kicked in seven conversions
for 14 points. Scrumhalf/flyhalf Keith Summa '07 scored a try and
added three conversions for 11 points. Eightman Mike Zoch '06, inside
center Jeff Miller '06, outside center Mark Bittmann '05, lock Tom
McKiernan '05, and wing Rich Staley '05 each scored a try. Newcomers
fullback Steve McMullin '07 and prop Nick Alberti '08 each scored
their first A side try.

Hoyas On Top Over
the Mount
September
25, 2004 -- Georgetown remained undefeated in the season
with a league match victory against Mt. St. Mary's, 35-14. The Georgetown
forwards laid the platform by stopping Mt. St. Mary's attempted
advancements from the rucks and mauls and delivering the ball to
the backs finishing off with spectacular runs and the Hoyas making
statements with 27 straight points in the first half. Mt. St. Mary's
looked to make a run in the second half while converting Hoyas'
turnovers into 14 points but barely made progress for the rest of
the game; the Hoyas were contained to only eight points.

added two conversions and two penalty kicks to lead the team scoring

match with the final score of 30-0. Wing Pat O'Brien '05 and fullback
Adam Glazer '07 each scored two tries to lead the team scoring with

scored a try.

Keep Runnin' Runnin'
September
19, 2004 -- Georgetown got the league opener started as they
outran the Catholic defenders in their seven tries to post a shutout
with the final score of 45-0. The Hoyas' defense was well in command
throughout the match and maintained territorial advantage though
the Cardinals made several attempts to score. The Hoyas displayed
an impressive performance in their ball distribution in the backs
and forwards with six different players scoring points.

Georgetown B were superior again over Catholic B with
the final score of 42-15. Flyhalf Adam Glazer '07 scored two tries
and added six conversions to lead the team scoring with 22 points.
Fullback Steve McMullin '07 scored the hat trick of tries for 15
points. Lock Tom Verghese '06 scored a try.

7 Tries Damage Green
September
11 , 2004 -- Georgetown defeated PRU Division I team George
Mason in their second game of the season with the final score of
48-13. The Hoyas exerted the pressure early in the opposition's
territory to establish their attacking platform and exploded for
34 straight points before allowing George Mason's late charges into
the try zone. Georgetown took advantage of every opportunity on
their offensive strikes and converted George Mason's turnovers into
points to apply damages on both sides of the game. Georgetown will
start their matrix matches on Sep 18.

hammered in the "el quatro" of tries to lead the team
scoring with 20 points. Flyhalf Jake Ludwigson '05 scored a try,
a penalty kick and five conversions for 18 points. Outside center
Greg Suellentrop '05 scored two tries for 10 points.

Hoyas
Win Season Opener
September
4 , 2004 -- Georgetown kicked off the fall season with a
victory against Mary Washington with the final score of 22-17. As
the first half was evenly balanced with only a Mary Washington penalty
kick, Georgetown handily exploited the opposition with 22 straight
points. Mary Washington later threatened with two tries but the
Hoyas prevailed against the team they have not beaten in its season
opener matches in over six seasons. In the past three years, the
season opener matches between both teams have been decided by a
five point difference.
Flyhalf Jake Ludwigson '05 led the
team scoring for seven points with a penalty kick and two conversions.
Wing Paul Detjen '06, fullback Ben Purcell '05, and inside center
Jeff Miller '06 each scored a try.

Old
Boys Dominate Sea Girt
August
28, 2004 -- The Georgetown Old Boys, featuring a full decade
of Hoya ruggers and two current undergrads, captured the Men's Club
B Division Championships in the Jersey Shore Rugby Tournament in
Sea Girt, NJ. In the first game, the Old Boys defeated tourney hosts
Monmouth B, 19-0. In the second game, the domination continued with
a 26-0 victory against Montclair. The Old Boys demoralized the East
Stroudsburg University Alumni team with repeated tries in the championship
match for a 47-0 victory. The
Old Boy's next challenge is against the Georgetown Undergrads on
November 13.
