Old Boys Dominate Sea Girt
Old Boys Sea Girt 2004August 28, 2004 -- The Georgetown Old Boys, featuring a full decade of Hoya ruggers and two current undergrads, captured the Men's Club B Division Championships in the Jersey Shore Rugby Tournament in Sea Girt, NJ. In the first game, the Old Boys defeated tourney hosts Monmouth B, 19-0. In the second game, the domination continued with a 26-0 victory against Montclair. The Old Boys demoralized the East Stroudsburg University Alumni team with repeated tries in the championship match for a 47-0 victory. The Old Boy's next challenge is against the Georgetown Undergrads on November 13.

Suellentrop, PAC in National 7s
July 31, 2004 --
Congratulations to Greg Suellentrop '05 and the Potomac Athletic Club (PAC) for winning the MARFU Club 7s Championships to qualify for the National Men's Club 7s Championships in Park CIty, Utah. In the semi finals, Suellentrop scored a key try in the second half against the favored MD Exiles to win 17-14. In the championship match, Suellentrop scored two tries including a try for over 50 meters against the higher seeded Washington team to win 35-5. PAC tied Washington 12-12 in their pool play match earlier in the day. PAC finished 6th in the Nation!

The Mid-Atlantic All-stars defeated the South All-Stars with the final score for 47-19 to win the National Collegiate All-Star Tier B Championships in Boulder, CO. MARFU, ranked #8 in the tournament, upset the Military Academy All-stars 30-24 in the semifinal match. Georgetown's Greg Suellentrop '05 started at eightman for the 24-man MARFU all-star team.

Suellentrop, Perez on MARFU All-star
Suellentrop, Perez on MARFU All-starMay 31, 2004 --
Greg Suellentrop '05 and head coach JP Perez were selected for the MARFU Collegiate All-star Team. Suellentrop, playing outside center with the Hoyas, led the spring season scoring with 19 tries for 95 points in 14 games. Versatile Suellentrop will play eightman for the MARFU Team. Coach JP has a 34-8 record (.809) since joining the Hoyas in the fall of 2002, and will join an all-star cast of coaches as the team manager. The MARFU Team will play in the National Collegiate All-Star Championships in Boulder, CO on June 11-12.

Georgetown started the day with a dominating performance against Catholic to capture its seventh consecutive Capital Cup Championship (34-0). The Hoyas kept the Cardinals on the ground with six tries in the game. Georgetown completed its spring season with an 11-3 record.

The Hoyas ended the night (or the next day for most) with the annual Rugby Ball festivities. The Georgetown Ruggers and their dates donned on their glamorous attire for the spring season ending celebration. Highlights included the player achievement awards, the senior gift presentations, and getting down on the dance floor.

DC's Best for Seventh Straight
Capital Cup ChampionsApril 24, 2004 --
Georgetown captured its seventh straight Capital Cup Championship to claim as the District's best team with a victory over Catholic, 34-0. The Hoyas have outscored Catholic 93-0 in its last three meetings. Six different players scored to end the Hoyas' season with a record of 11-3. Thank you to our senior trio — Knox, Hartman, and O'Toole!

Hoyas Drop Three of Last Five
Georgetown vs. NortheasternApril 4, 2004
-- In the second day of the Cherry Blossom Tournament, Georgetown was denied scoring opportunities against Northeastern to lose 0-10. In last spring's tournament, Georgetown defeated Northeastern in the Cup quarterfinals, 24-10. The Hoyas were held scoreless for the first time since April 6, 2003 against Navy.

-- In the first day of the Cherry Blossom Tournament, Georgetown was disappointed by Harvard in the first game, 5-7 and defeated Virginia Tech 17-5 in the second match to advance to the tournament plate bracket.

Hoyas Finish Third in MARFUs

Georgetown finished in third place in the Mid-Atlantic regionals with a victory against Virginia, 29-7. The Hoyas scored four tries in the first half but were contained to only one try in the second half to avenge their 12-28 loss to Virginia in the spring 2003 MARFU semifinals.

Georgetown's eight game win streak ends in the MARFU semifinals against Radford with the final score of 27-36. The Hoyas scored five tries against the defending national champion's six tries.

Hoyas Topple Temple in MARFU

Georgetown advanced to its second straight Mid-Atlantic Final 4 with a victory over EPRU #1 team Temple with the final score of 29-12. Temple scored the first try of the game but Georgetown shut down Temple's scoring hopes and scored five tries for a complete sweep of the Pennsylvania opponents. In the MARFU semifinals last spring, Georgetown fell to Virginia 28-12. The Hoyas will play Radford in the semifinals in Severn River, MD on March 27.

Hoyas Prevail in Grudge Match

Outside center Greg Suellentrop '05 scored on a penalty play in the closing minutes to secure the win for Georgetown, 30-26. In their previous match on September 7, 2003, Georgetown defeated Loyola 54-3. A Loyola team claiming that the fall season outcome was a fluke, repeatedly responded to Georgetown's scores and challenged the Hoyas in their preparation for the MARFU playoffs.

Kutztown's Done, Temple's Next

Georgetown defeated the EPRU Division I #1 team Kutztown, 47-17. Though Kutztown responded to each Georgetown score, the opposition failed to stop Georgetown in the final 30 minutes of the match as the Hoyas ran away with 28 straight points.

Hoyas Take Down 2 From EPRU
Georgetown vs. VillanovaFebruary 21, 2004
Georgetown defeated Eastern Pennsylvania teams, Villanova and West Chester. Against Villanova, the Hoyas erupted for six unanswered tries for the final scored of 37-7. Against West Chester, the Hoyas held the opposition down and away from Hoyas' territory to win 12-10.

Georgetown kicked off the spring season by capturing the New Orleans Rugby Mardi Gras Classic Championship with a 46-5 victory against Loyola (IL).
