Calling all Hoya Ruggers!

As many of you know, Mike Woods (’00) and “English” James Hill (’01) have spent a great deal of time over the last couple years trying to get a Georgetown Rugby Alumni Association organized. Recently they formed an Alumni Association Board, recruiting Dan Oldroyd (’00) and myself (Scott Champagne, ’97), to help accelerate the process of building the association.

Our goal is to create a formalized network for the entire Georgetown Rugby Community in order to:

  • help alumni keep in touch with each other
  • create a network that alumni can turn to when they move to a new city or are looking for a new job
  • organize annual alumni events such as the Monmouth rugby tournament, alumni games with undergrads, golf outings, etc.
  • create an official channel through which alumni can give time and money back to the club
  • create an official channel to distribute GURFC news to alumni
  • work closely with current GURFC officers to help the club attain its goals

In order to reach these objectives we have taken on several initiatives, including:

  • Updating the Georgetown Rugby Alumni Association Website ( – still under construction)
  • Opening a Georgetown Rugby Alumni Association bank account at the Georgetown Credit Union
  • Opening a Georgetown Rugby Alumni Association PayPal account to facilitate on-line donations
  • Gathering contact information for as many Hoya Ruggers as possible

Many of you have provided similar information in the past, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide the information one last time so I know that we have the latest information and so that I can populate a couple of extra fields. Specifically, we would like to know: “May we contact you about events?” and “May we include you on the Georgetown Rugby Alumni Association database?” By default, we will assume No to both questions, but we obviously would appreciate it if you would change that to yes. We will be make it a priority to protect your privacy by sending a minimum amount of communication, allowing you to change your options at any time, restricting access to the database to alumni only, and creating strict policies about the use of contact information.

In the near future, you will be able to update all of this information online through the Georgetown Rugby Alumni Website. However, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me your information now so we have a good base to start from. I will automatically upload any data you provide me so that you do not have to enter it again.

Thank you all very much for your support as we launch the Georgetown Rugby Alumni Association. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via email or cell phone. I look forward to seeing you all at upcoming alumni events.
